What is Stuttering?

Stuttering is when the child repeats either same sound (sssssssnake), the same word (I, I, I, I WANT...) or the same phrase (Can I have, Can I have, Can I have one)

Everyone is bumpy sometimes but if you hear lots of stuttering or if the child is concerned about it - it is best to have a stuttering assessment to help you what is OK for age, to give you ideas of what to do when they do stutter and ways to monitor the stutter so that it is not reinforced.

Sometimes an early intervention approach can avoid long term stuttering issues. We can assess what kind of stutter your child is presenting with. Based on this we can investigate whether the stutter is a typical developmental stage or a more serious issue. We can give you ideas of what you can do to help on the first assessment session. It is frequently better not to wait.
